All Natural Flea Treatment for dogs :D

I love love love when the weather starts getting warmer.

The one thing I don't love however is fleas! They are unbelievably annoying and they breed ridiculously quick!

So you can imagine how unhappy I was when I saw fleas all over my puppies. Thoughts of flea bites on my baby and littles began bothering me instantly. But no matter how bothered I was, there would be no vet trip in the near future unless it was an emergency. Since hubby is unemployed other than the Air guard at this time, money isn't plentiful. Plus, we also don't love how much veterinarians charge you for an appointment to see your dog so that they can charge you even more for something to kill and prevent those nasty little hoppy, bitey buggers. Add the fact that I'm not too thrilled with the idea of putting chemicals on my sensitive boston terrier's skin and you have a woman who decided that she would begin researching natural flea treatment alternatives.

You won't believe what I found through Dr. Google.

The same thing kept popping up.. the do all... cure all... Vinegar.

Honestly, I don't know why I was surprised. It seems vinegar is like a one man band. It can do just about anything. The week before I was outside killing weeds with it. I also use it to soften my clothes when I do laundry and now... well now I use it to kill fleas.

After reading how well it worked, I decided I would give it a try. What did I have to lose right? Definitely not money!

I mixed half vinegar and half water into a spray bottle and took the pups outside where they got sprayed and a good rub down by my 10 year old. We were very careful to avoid their face. We then let them play. The yahoo answers site I had stumbled on said to do this multiple times a day until the fleas were gone.

I'm sure you can imagine how well that worked. I'm a homeschooling mom of 5 girlies. O.O

Day 1: we did it once (ooops lol)
Day 2: we did it once again (ooops... seems we keep forgetting)
Day 3: we skip
Day 4: echo... echo... echo...
Day 5:  Mom: "Oh shoot, we forgot to spray the puppies for fleas!"
Daughter #1: "Mom, I think it killed almost all of them. I've only seen a couple since we last sprayed them."
Daughter #2: "I only saw one yesterday."
Mom: "Awesome! Take them outside and spray them again please"
Day 6: No spray...and No fleas!
Day 7: No spray...and No fleas again!

One week later... no spray and no fleas!!!

The fleas were all gone!!! It's so cheap and worked really fast! I can't imagine if we would have sprayed them multiple times like the person suggested. For those of you that don't like the idea of your dogs smelling like vinegar, have no fear, the smell dissipates. :D Your puppies won't smell like Easter for long. :)

I have since decided that we will spray down our puppies every now and then just to keep the fleas away. I also made sure that we got some vinegar/water mixture on their collars.

Apparently fleas hate vinegar... who knew. :D

*side note* I am not a veterinarian. I have not researched what side affects inhaling vinegar might have on animals. All I know is that it was suggested. I tried it and it worked... really, really well. :)

Here's to a Happy Flea-less summer from Blue and Truffles!

Blue thinks he's a stud. lol

And Truffles... well little Truffles has no doubt that she's a princess. lol

Very cool - I'm so glad when a natural remedy actually works well. But what have you got for terrible dog breath? - yuck!

Thank you for this. I have 2 dogs too...their flea treatment today was 30.00! I don't like the idea of putting so many chemicals on them...and I certainly don't like the idea of spending 30.00 a month to keep them flea free.

I am SO gonna do this.

Gotta love vinegar. Clean the windows, then deflea the dogs. :)

Just found your idea on a friends Pinterest board and I'm going to try this on my cat. I may have to dilute it a bit more if the vinegar smell is too strong though, but will definately try it! Tell your hubby "Thanks" for me for his service! Best wishes with the new one and God Bless!

Just found your blog. I also have 6 daughters and homeschool only 2 of them. Will be trying this trick for our puppy's fleas.
